On 12 July 2024, the South Yemeni American community in Alabama met with Congressman Gary Palmer to discuss key issues concerning South Yemen and U.S. involvement in addressing the ongoing crisis. The delegation emphasized the urgent humanitarian situation, highlighting the need for increased aid and urging Palmer to advocate for U.S. engagement in peace efforts.
They also discussed the political dynamics, focusing on Houthi aggression and the importance of recognizing the aspirations of the southern Yemeni people. Security of shipping routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, along with the reopening of the U.S. Consulate in Aden, were also raised.
Congressman Palmer expressed interest in exploring U.S. actions to address the crisis, marking a positive step in the community’s ongoing advocacy efforts for South Yemen.
