Challenges to Stability in South Yemen — Part II
The American Center for South Yemen Studies hosted the second installment of its discussion series, “Challenges to Stability in South Yemen,” focusing on Yemeni perspectives on current political, security, and advocacy developments.
The discussion examined the major challenges facing South Yemen amid the continuing conflict, including the threat posed by the Houthis, the fragile security environment, and the broader implications of regional and international policy decisions. Participants addressed how instability in Yemen continues to affect South Yemen’s governance, security, and political future.
A key part of the conversation focused on advocacy efforts by the South Yemeni American community in Washington, DC. Topics raised with members of the U.S. Congress included the impact of the new travel ban and its consequences for Yemeni and South Yemeni communities, families, students, and professionals.
The discussion also highlighted the continued relevance of South Yemen in U.S. policy conversations, particularly as developments in Yemen remain tied to maritime security, counterterrorism, regional stability, and the future of any credible peace process.
Through this event, ACSYS continued its efforts to provide a platform for serious dialogue on South Yemen, bringing together Yemeni voices and policy perspectives to better inform public understanding of the challenges facing the South and its diaspora.
